The hot weather returned today but I think we got all the games in before it got too bad. I saw a lot of good soccer going on. Hopefully our U4 players are starting to get it and getting closer to playing real games. I know the level of play in U6 is great and I've seen some very good games there.
I haven't had much of a chance to watch U8 or U11 yet but I hear good things. I also hear that there may have been a few lopsided games. I know as a parent that can be frustrating. You hate to see your kids getting beat by wide margins and, naturally, you worry that this sort of experience might actually turn your kids off to the game. I can tell you from experience that that won't be the case. The kids want to play. They don't like losing but they want to play anyway and that's how it should be. And hopefully the quality of play of our best teams will, over the course of a session, raise the level of play of all the teams. If you have any thoughts on the issue of balance of competition please contact me. I'd be glad to hear your comments.
We have scheduled Fall Soccer Picture day for Sept. 10. By next weekend we should have order forms to hand out and a schedule for when your teams will be photographed. Picture day can be a bit hectic, especially if you have multiple kids playing, but it always works out.
Special thanks this week to The Schaffer family for helping out with some refereeing schedule issues. Dave Schaffer, son Jacob and daughter Kelly filled in for us on games where we were short refs. And my own daughter, Helen, helped out on one of the U8 games too. Thanks Helen.
See everyone out there next week.
