Fall Season Kick-Off!

If your child is new to soccer here is what they will need to play:

-Soccer shorts in any color.

-Shin guards that fit right (not too big or they impede their running).  The shin guard is meant to cover the shin from about two inches above the foot to about two inches below the knee.  You can find more elaborate guard gear that includes ankle protectors as well as the shin guard.

-Soccer socks that completely cover the shin guards. Shin guards must be worn inside the socks, no exceptions. The socks can be in any color. You should be able to find socks that are long enough to allow you to place the shin guard over the shin part of the sock and then roll the top of the sock down to cover the shin guard.  That's usually more comfortable for the kids.

-Shoes that they can run in. If they have athletic shoes that they like (tennis shoes, cross-trainers, etc.) they certainly can wear them but if they prefer to get some cleats be sure you only get soccer cleats. Baseball and Football cleats that have a toe cleat right at the end of the shoe are not permitted in soccer, no exceptions.  For indoor soccer at Midwest Sports you might want to try flat soled shoes rather than cleats.  Again, running shoes are fine but you can also find indoor "turf" shoes in kids sizes such as the Adidas "Samba" which is a classic and affordable option.  The Samba and shoes like it have a flat sole that works well on the low, fast turf at Midwest.  If you feel you need a bit more grip you might try a flat sole with a soft cleat pattern like the Adidas "Ezeiro".    Both are reasonable priced and at stores like Dick's you can find similar models from Nike and Umbro.
-If you want to get a ball for practicing at home U4 through U8 divisions all use a #3 size ball. The older kids use a #4.

You can find the equipment you need at Dick's, WalMart, Target and Play it Again Sports (in Union on US 42).

No earrings or metal hair clips may be worn during games. No bracelets may be worn during games.
