I think we are finally to the point where the team rosters are settled and I can put an actual game schedule together. That will be posted here and distributed to Coaches as soon as it is ready. Games will begin this coming Saturday, the 29th. U4 and U6 will play Saturday morning. U12 will play Saturday afternoon. U8 and U10 will play Sunday afternoon.
The Clinic was a great success and I want to thank all the Coaches who came out to help. We worked on a few basic ball control skills in a set of drills that allowed the kids to practice a skill in isolation and then incorporate it into a game-like situation. One thing we tried to emphasize repeatedly with each group of kids was that we wanted to see them working on developing their skills and not worry about the outcome of their games. Sometimes their anxiousness to score a goal gets in the way of their learning how to get the ball to the goal. In other words, they shoot early and from distance when they ought to be trying to take the ball in and put their skills to the test by challenging defenders. Hopefully as the session goes on we'll see kids trying out some of the moves we worked on in the clinic and challenging themselves to be more confident and proactive in their play. Winning is fun and we want the kids to compete with spirit but what we should all be focused on is the development of each player.
On a sad note: the teenage divisions are cancelled for this session. Unfortunately we did not receive anywhere near enough registrations to put teams together. Hopefully the teenagers will come back in the Winter session. If you were signed up for one of the teenage divisions and haven't heard from NKYA regarding a refund or credit please contact me at nkyacoachpat@gmail.com.
